Indications/Uses
Treatment & prevention of Fe deficiency w/ increased need for folic acid during pregnancy & lactation.

Dosage/Direction for Use
Prevention & treatment of Fe deficiency & treatment of Fe deficiency w/o anaemia (latent Fe deficiency) & to meet increased need for folic acid 1 tab once daily. Treatment of Fe deficiency w/ anaemia (manifest Fe deficiency) & to meet increased need for folic acid 1 tab bd-tds. Once Hb values have returned to normal, continue w/ 1 tab daily until end of pregnancy.

Overdosage
View Maltofer Fol overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or immediately after meals. May be chewed or swallowed whole.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Fe overload. Fe utilisation disorders. Non-Fe deficiency anaemia.

Special Precautions
Confirm blood Fe & Hb levels before starting treatment & monitor periodically. Caution in patients w/ infection or tumour; vit B12 deficiency. Folic acid can mask vit B12 deficiency. Caution in patients who have received blood transfusions due to risk of Fe overload. Not recommended to use w/ injectable Fe prep. Concomitant use w/ phenytoin; chloramphenicol.

Adverse Reactions
Stool discolouration. Diarrhoea, nausea, indigestion. Occasionally, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, tooth discolouration, headache, local skin reactions (itching, rash). Very rarely, allergic reactions.
